Reducing Risk of Side Effects

In the past, treatments for prostate cancer often increased the risk of side effects such as erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence, as well as extensive recovery times. But now, minimally invasive, robotic-assisted surgery and targeted internal radiation therapies — uniquely integrated with world-class physicians, complementary and alternative medicine and a host of supportive services — is allowing Goshen Center for Cancer Care to help reduce the risk of these traditional side effects. Through our collaborative environment, you’ll receive the most complete care possible to address side effects, even before they occur. All in one place. And without changing physicians or traveling to another facility.

A Proactive Approach

At Goshen Center for Cancer Care, our comprehensive prostate cancer program not only features leading-edge technology, but also includes a proactive approach to reducing possible side effects, focusing on prevention. From diagnosis, treatment and recovery, every measure is taken to help reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction (ED) and urinary incontinence. For example, to reduce or eliminate ED before it occurs, patients are offered oral medications for the condition prior to prostate surgery. And since the first four months following surgery are critical to regaining sexual function, differing forms of medications are offered immediately after treatment. In addition, robotic-assisted surgery provides our surgeon a magnified view of the prostate, allowing him to more accurately and efficiently reconstruct bladder anatomy during the procedure and help reduce the risk of urinary incontinence. Plus, complementary and alternative medicine is offered throughout treatment to aid recovery.
