Research and Technology

The Goshen Center for Cancer Care is a state of the art treatment center in Indiana but it’s much more than that. At the Center for Cancer Care we’ve assembled a unique group of cancer specialists using the latest technology to conduct groundbreaking research.

The beyond the state of the art technology at the Cancer Center becomes more effective in the hands of these specialists. As we treat the patients of today, we keep an eye on finding the cure for tomorrow.

TomoTherapy

TomoTherapy combines the advanced form of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) with the accuracy of CT scanning technology for planning and radiation delivery in one machine. In the hands of Goshen’s doctors, Tomo Therapy is a precision tool in the fight against cancer.

Clinical Trials

The Center for Cancer Care’s approach to treatment is integrated and holistic. We use a wide variety of clinical trials and our ability to offer the latest treatments is made possible by tirelessly searching for and securing quality initiatives. All clinical trials at the Center for Cancer Care are done under strict safety and ethical guidelines.

Interleukin-2

Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is a genetically engineered form of human IL-2, which activates special defense cells in the body that can destroy cancer cells. High-dose IL-2 was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma and metastatic melanoma in 1992 and 1998, respectively.

Microspheres

Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT), is a state of the art, targeted therapy that uses millions of microscopic radioactive beads, also know as SIR-Spheres, to help destroy tumors from the inside out.

PET/CT

The image from a PET/CT scan is a more precise way to detect and identify the exact cancerous location because it shows the anatomy and tumor behavior at one time. The state-of-the-art technology of PET/CT combines CT and PET imaging to be performed simultaneously, and the fusion of anatomic and physiologic information increases precision and accuracy. PET/CT offers the ability to monitor the effectiveness of treatment and adjust the plan during instead of at the end of treatment.

MammoSite

MammoSite Internal Radiation is a less invasive method that delivers internal radiation therapy. The MammoSite device is a balloon catheter that is inserted into the cavity created by a lumpectomy (the surgical removal of a breast tumor). The device targets radiation to the area where tumors are most likely to recur, while minimizing exposure to healthy tissue. Twice a day for five days, the catheter is briefly connected to our High Dose Rate Brachytherapy equipment for an internal radiation treatment through the catheter. These treatments are painless. After 5 days, the catheter is removed easily. The patient is an outpatient and stays at home or at a nearby location in Goshen. Patients are not radioactive and may continue most of their usual activities during that period.
